- The public is invited to the groundbreaking for Phase I of the new Mobile County Soccer Complex, which will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 17 at the site near the intersection of Halls Mill Road and Lee’s Lane in Mobile.
- I is expected to be complete by January 2020 and will include two tournament quality fields and two seeded practice fields, along with irrigation and sewer, lighting, landscaping, a parking lot and entrance road.
- The $4 million funding for Phase I construction includes $1.2 million from GOMESA (Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act) for an environmentally-friendly permeable parking lot, and the balance of Phase I costs will be allocated from Commission District 2 Capital Improvement Program Funding.
- The soccer complex project recently received grant allocations from the U.S. Soccer Foundation and the Schmidt and Barton Family Fund, totaling over $74,000, to be used toward the construction of the facility.
